Installing a wood fence yourself can be a rewarding project if you plan carefully and select the right materials. Start by measuring your yard and marking post locations. Standard spacing between posts is usually 6–8 feet.

Next, choose the right posts and hardware. Heavy-duty hinges, latches, and brackets ensure gates operate smoothly and the fence remains durable. Use pressure-treated wood to resist rot and weather damage.

When digging post holes, ensure proper depth (generally 1/3 of the post height) and use gravel or concrete for stability. Attach rails and panels with screws or bolts, keeping everything level and aligned. For gates, reinforce frames and include drop rods or locks as needed.

Finally, finish with stain or paint to protect the wood and enhance aesthetics. Following these steps ensures a strong, long-lasting fence.
